I have spent the last 12 years in Fernie and live here with my husband, son, and our dog Mutley. I first got involved in dog training in 2011 when Mutley started showing signs of reactivity.
Our first experience with training was with aversive training methods and tools, which appeared to help initially. But Mutley ended up with a number of fallout issues soon after. This led to a campaign of emailing trainers in Calgary to find someone who had a force free, pain free training philosophy who would be willing to take on a client so far away. And through lots of travel, patience, hard work, and commitment Mutley has come a long way.
While he is still reactive with some dogs, he no longer barks and lunges at bikes, cars, people, balloons… the list goes on. This experience inspired me to learn as much as I could about positive reinforcement training.
In 2016 I applied, and was accepted, to an intensive 16 month apprenticeship program at Dogma Behavior and Education Centre in Calgary, AB, where I earned a certificate as a Certified Behavior Consultant. I am now actively working towards my certification with the CCPDT (Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers), which is the leading international certification organization. I am also a member of the APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers).
